Alliston

Quaint and friendly town in Southern Ontario

Welcome to Alliston

Quaint and friendly town in Southern Ontario

Located in southern Ontario, just north of the GTA, Alliston is a small town in the province of Ontario. Originally known for growing potatoes, Alliston developed into a hotspot for commerce for local farmers. As one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada, Alliston has a lot to offer. Alliston has stayed true to its origin, as potatoes are still a commodity and a pillar of the town’s economic stability. On top of that, Honda’s manufacturing plants employ many full-time residents.

Alliston is an up-and-coming, bustling town with countless attractions. At the Alliston Potato Festival, an annual three-day celebration, residents celebrate the area’s agricultural beginnings. As a booming area that still holds on to old-school traditions, Alliston has something to offer everyone!

Local Lifestyle

Victoria Street is the main downtown area where you can shop, eat, or enjoy some live music. Alliston has an abundance of parks with scenic views. The primary ones are Riverdale Park, next to the Boyne River, and PPG Park on the south side of town. Residents gather at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre for social fun and exercise. It is equipped with an indoor track, fieldhouse, ice pads, and dry pads for exercise and team sports. New Tecumseth Recreation Centre also has two halls available to rent for special occasions.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

If you’re looking to enjoy a nice meal, there is no reason to leave Alliston. The downtown area has multiple restaurants for you to choose from. William’s is a proud locally owned and operated restaurant and it shows in every detail. The owner transformed a 100-year-old house into a tribute to Alliston's history. With bricks from an old, local factory and wall panels from a historic homestead, the restaurant breathes Alliston. William’s menu is created from seasonal, locally sourced produce. The Butternut Squash Ravioli is served in a roasted red pepper cream sauce and goat cheese. Family meals are available with traditional pasta options or meat pies. The venue has a bar, indoor and patio seating, and hosts live musical performances weekly.

Kelly’s Bistro serves fine cuisine in a comfortable atmosphere. Enjoy their Duck Confit or Manitoulin Rainbow Trout followed by a slice of homemade lemon-lime Cheesecake or Lindt Chocolate Mousse. It is a fun Bistro on Wednesday and Thursdays when they have their ‘Bistrolicious experience,’ a special three-course meal.

Things to Do

The Alliston Potato Festival is the town’s biggest event of the year. Originally, it only took place on Victoria Street, but it has grown so much that it has taken over the town. The Potato Festival now has activities in multiple locations all over Alliston. The action kicks off with a massive parade. All three days there are food vendors, a beer garden, live music, performances from local talent, and a street fair to enjoy.

The Gibson Centre for Community Arts & Culture has live music, art showcases, and different seasonal activities around the holidays. Along with being a venue that celebrates and encourages the arts, the Gibson Centre is a popular location for a beautiful wedding venue.

For those visiting Alliston, or residents looking for a get-away, the Nottawasaga Inn Resort is the place for you. It is in the lush countryside of Nottawasaga Valley. Nottawasaga’s sites feature a gas fireplace and a Jacuzzi. They have two golf courses and a 70,000-square-foot fitness center, with squash courts. The family will have a day full of fun swimming in the rainforest-themed swimming pool and sliding down the 100-foot water slide.
